Man Faces Felony Charges For Allegedly Soliciting Prostitute In Shell Lake

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Felony charges have been filed in Washburn County Circuit Court against a man from Cloquet, MN, after he was arrested in Shell Lake, WI for allegedly soliciting a prostitute.

On March 22, 2021, Trevor Peters, of Cloquet, MN, contacted an adult female profile on an online social networking service by sending a message to the female. An undercover officer was on duty and operating the account, and received the first message which stated “Hey”.

The undercover officer replied, “Hey”, to which Peters responded “How are u doing beautiful”, and “Wanna make 200 bucks.”

During the subsequent conversation, Peters sent multiple messages stating what sexual activities the female would need to do in order to earn two hundred dollars.

Peters asked for an address where he could pick up the female and went on to provide his estimated time of arrival and give a description of the vehicle that he would be arriving in. He also stated that he would provide the female with an activated cell phone.

Peters sent a GPS photo showing confirmation of his estimated time of arrival and also a photo of himself which appeared to be of the same man shown in the photos on his online profile.

Officers from multiple Washburn County law enforcement agencies were posted in the vicinity of the address where Peters was to pick up the female. At approximately the arrival time Peters had given, a vehicle matching the description provided by Peters arrived in Shell Lake and parked at the address he had been given. An officer made contact and the driver was identified by driver’s license as Peters. He was wearing the same clothing shown in the photo he had sent.

Peters was taken into custody. Inside his vehicle, officers found $42 cash and a glass pipe used for smoking methamphetamine.

An officer advised Peters that he had been communicating with an undercover officer and Peters asked for an attorney. While Peters was being transported to the Washburn County Jail, he stated that he thought he was having a heart attack, so he was taken to the Shell Lake Emergency Room.

Officers then located another glass smoking device inside the squad car under the seat where Peters had been sitting while being transported to the hospital.

Peters refused any medical care other than anxiety medication and so the hospital released him, against medical advice, and he was taken to the Washburn County Jail.

Online records show that Peters appeared for a bail hearing on March 23, 2021, and the Court placed him on a $2,500 signature bond.

Peters is charged with Class H Felony Solicitation of Prostitutes which carries a maximum possible sentence of imprisonment for 6 years. On April 12, 2021, Peters made an initial appearance regarding his charges, and he is scheduled to appear again in June 2021 for a preliminary examination hearing.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
