(DrydenWire) -- Multiple charges were filed against Leighton Givens following a vehicle vs. train crash that occurred in October 2022 in Barron County near the city of Cameron, WI. Leighton was the driver of the vehicle, and both he and the passenger sustained non-life-threatening injuries.
On October 3, 2022, shortly after 11:30a, the Barron County Sheriff’s Department and the Wisconsin State Patrol responded to an automobile vs. train crash on 23rd Street, north of Highway 8 in Barron County near Cameron. LMC and a MedLink helicopter also responded to the scene of the crash.
A train was traveling eastbound approaching 23rd Street. Leighton’s vehicle was traveling southbound on 23rd Street and colliding with the side of the locomotive, overturned and came to rest on its roof in the northeast ditch.
A press release from the Wisconsin State Patrol stated that signs of impairment were observed. Citations for Fail/Yield for Yield Sign (Resulting Bodily Harm) and Vehicle Operator Fail/Wear Seat Belt were filed against Leighton.
On January 31, 2023, a third citation was filed charging Leighton with Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense for the same incident date.
Online circuit court records show that on February 1, 2023, a court hearing was held regarding all of Leighton’s citations. Assistant District Attorney Brady Seidlitz made a motion to the Court to dismiss the citation for Operating While Intoxicated-1st Offense and Hon. Maureen Boyle granted that citation.
A Jury Trial was scheduled for April 3, 2023, regarding the other two citations filed against Leighton. That trial date was later moved to May 22, 2023, however, on May 19, 2023, Leighton appeared by video for a court hearing. A.D.A. Seidlitz made a motion to amend the charge of Fail/Yield for Yield Sign (Resulting Bodily Harm) to a charge of Fail/Yield at Uncontrolled Intersection. Judge Boyle granted this motion, and Leighton entered a plea of No Contest to that charge. The charge of Vehicle Operator Fail/Wear Seat Belt was dismissed. Judge Boyle ordered Leighton to pay a forfeiture of $175.30 within 60 days.
