BURNETT COUNTY — Johnny Massey, Jr., age 33, of Grantsburg, WI, has been charged criminally following an investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation and Burnett County Law Enforcement into a report that multiple video recordings of children exposed in bathrooms had been found on a cell phone belonging to Massey.
Law Enforcement received information from an individual who stated that she was in possession of Massey’s cell phone and that she had found multiple videos of unclothed children showering on the phone.
This individual told the investigating officers that the phone had been given to her by another person who found the phone after Massey has been at a residence. When the individual confronted Massey about the videos on the cell phone, Massey allegedly offered a $10,000 ring in exchange for the phone. When his offer was refused, he then threatened the individual.
The videos found on Massey’s cell phone were allegedly recorded with hidden cameras placed by Massey, whose face is shown in at least one of the videos, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
Massey is charged with two counts of Class F Felony Sexual Exploitation of a Child, Repeater, two counts of Class I Felony Invasion of Privacy - Surveillance Device (Victim Under Age 18, Repeater), two counts of Class I Felony Post or Publish a Depiction of Person Without Consent - Victim Under Age 18, Repeater, and two counts of Class I Felony Possession of Child Pornography, Repeater.
At a recent hearing, Massey was placed on a $10,000 cash bond, conditions of which prohibit him from having any contact with any children or minors, even those related to him. He is also not allowed to use any device with internet access capability. Massey is scheduled to appear in Court again before the end of January 2020.
Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
