BURNETT COUNTY -- Charges of attempted homicide have been filed against Maurice Corbine, of Webster, WI, after he allegedly attacked his brother in May 2020.
DrydenWire.com published a press release from the Burnett County Sheriff’s Office on May 19, 2020 which stated that Maurice Corbine had been arrested for attempted homicide of his brother, Bryan Corbine, who had been found severely injured and unconscious following a report of a fight.
Law Enforcement officers responded to a report of two men fighting just before 11p at a residence on Eagle Feather Drive in Burnett County. Deputies first on the scene located a male victim, identified as Bryan, on the floor of the garage with a large amount of blood on him and around his body. The man was unconscious but breathing, and Emergency Medical Personnel arrived on scene to provide care.
Deputies located Maurice Corbine in the residence. Maurice had blood on his shirt and pants and a small cut on his forehead. A female witness was also at the residence and Maurice told Deputies that she had been in the garage when the fight occurred.
When Deputies spoke to the female, she said that she came into the garage and Maurice and Bryan were already engaged in a physical fight. Maurice allegedly knocked Bryan to the ground with a folding chair and then dropped a coffee can filled with cement onto Bryan’s head. The coffee can was found to weigh over 13 lbs. according to the criminal complaint filed against Maurice.
Medical personnel confirmed to Law Enforcement that Bryan had sustained multiple facial fractures and was also experiencing bleeding on his brain, according to the criminal complaint filed against Maurice. On May 18 Deputies went to the hospital and were able to speak with Bryan.
Bryan told the Deputies that he didn’t remember the incident on May 15th. He also stated that he could not see out of his left eye since the 15th. The current condition of Bryan is not known to DrydenWire.com at the time of this post.
Maurice is charged with Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide; Class E Felony Aggravated Battery; Class C Felony Mayhem; Class D Felony First Degree Reckless Injury; Class F Felony Second Degree Reckless Injury; Class F Felony Recklessly Endangering Safety. All the charges were filed with a Repeater penalty enhancer attached because Maurice had previously been convicted of a felony. If convicted as charged, Maurice faces a possible sentence of more than 150 years confinement in state prison.
At a hearing on May 18, 2020, the Court ordered a $2,500 cash bond for Maurice, which was later posted. Maurice appeared most recently on June 18 and is scheduled to appear again in August 2020.
Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
