WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has accepted a change of plea from a Spooner, WI man who was charged criminally following the investigation into an explosive device that was discovered near the Wild Rivers Trail just south of Spooner, WI.
DrydenWire previously published a post in April of 2021 regarding charges that had been filed against Jason Miller, of Spooner, WI. The charges stemmed from the discovery of an explosive device near the Wild Rivers Trail on November 2, 2020.
The Washburn County Sheriff’s Office, Spooner Police Department, and Marathon County Bomb Squad investigated the situation and the device was detonated. The remnants were sent to the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) for processing. The FBI Latent Print Laboratory found a fingerprint that was identified as belonging to Jason Miller.
A search warrant was executed at Jason Miller’s residence and officials found numerous bags and boxes containing explosive compounds; a roll of duct tape; and a blender containing residue of the explosive compounds in Miller’s bedroom.
Miller was charged with Class H Felony Possession of Improvised Explosives.
Online circuit court records show that at a recent hearing in Washburn County Circuit Court, Miller changed his plea of Not Guilty to a plea of Guilty. The Court accepted Miller’s plea on the charge of Class H Felony Possession of Improvised Explosives and also accepted a proposed Deferred Judgment of Conviction Agreement. Online court records do not list details of the agreement’s conditions, however, do indicate that the agreement is to last 24 months.
Miller also entered a plea of Guilty to an additional charge of Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct. The Court ordered Miller to serve 1 year of probation on the conviction for Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct. Conditions of probation will require Miller to maintain absolute sobriety and he will be prohibited from possessing any explosive or dangerous weapons.
