Investigation Leads To Charges Of Repeated Sexual Assault Of A Child For Minong Man

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Charges of repeated sexual assault of a child have been filed against a Minong, WI man.

A criminal complaint has been filed in Washburn County Circuit Court against Kevin R. Peterson, of Minong, WI, charging him with Class C Felony Repeated Sexual Assault of a Child.

In September 2021, the Minong Police Department was provided a written statement which alleged that Peterson had committed multiple sexual assaults of a child. Minong Police Chief Gulbrandsen initiated an investigation and conducted an interview with the alleged victim.

The criminal complaint states that in May and June 2013, Peterson sexually assaulted a child who was under the age of 16, multiple times. Peterson would have been 43 years old at that time.

Peterson began grooming the child several years prior, according to the complaint which states that when Peterson had contact with the child he would help the child bathe and take care of other hygienic activities involving the child’s private areas, even though the child did not need or want the help. Peterson also allegedly threatened that the child’s family would suffer negative consequences if the child told anyone about the sexual assaults.

Online circuit court records show that on December 10, the criminal complaint was filed along with an arrest warrant for Peterson. Peterson appeared in court on December 13, 2021, while in custody, for a bond hearing before the Hon. Angeline Winton.

District Attorney Aaron Marcoux requested that the Court order a $25,000 cash bond for Peterson. Judge Winton ordered a signature bond of $25,000 with a $5,000 cash component. Conditions of bond prohibit Peterson from having unsupervised contact with minor children. Peterson’s bond was posted on December 14, 2021.

If convicted as charged, Peterson faces a possible maximum sentence of 40 years confinement in state prison, a maximum fine of $100,000, or both.

Peterson is scheduled to make an initial appearance on his criminal charges on December 20, 2021.
