As we near the Thanksgiving holiday, ICAA’s Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) program is showing support for our veterans by providing ten families with a turkey for their holiday meal. Edward Martin, SSVF program coordinator, delivered five of the turkeys in Exeland, Hayward, and Ladysmith last Friday. The remaining five will be delivered in Ashland, Douglas, and Superior on Tuesday.
Edward said, “these men and woman are the 1% that had the courage to serve their country and not all homeless and at risk veterans are just single men. In fact, many veterans with spouses and children have no homes. Individuals and families like these call ICAA's SSVF program because they are sleeping in their cars or places not meant for habitation.” Serving veterans is Edward’s number one priority so he wanted to come up with a meaningful outreach project in which we could show appreciation to those veterans and their families for the sacrifices they made on our behalf. Jennifer Shearer, ICAA’s CEO said, “these service men and women have given so much of themselves, spending time away from their families so they could serve and protect our families and freedom. We are honored to learn from them and try to give back a small portion of what they freely sacrificed for us.”
