Hayward Man Sentenced on 5th Offense OWI Charge

SAWYER COUNTY — 31-year-old Angelo Perry of Hayward, WI, has been sentenced to prison on his charges of 5th offense Operating While Intoxicated.

Felony charges were filed against a Hayward, WI man following a traffic stop by the Wisconsin State Patrol in February 2018.

Perry was charged with Class G Felony 5th Offense OWI, Class G Felony 5th Offense Operating with Prohibited Alcohol Concentration, Misdemeanor Operating While Revoked, and Misdemeanor Ignition Interlock Device Tampering/Failure to Install/Violate Court Order after the vehicle he was operating was stopped by a Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper on February 15, 2018 for an equipment violation.

Online circuit court records show that at a hearing on October 16, 2018, Perry plead guilty to his charge of OWI 5th Offense. His charge of 5th Offense Operate With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration was merged/dismissed as a matter of law. Perry’s other charges were dismissed and read in.

The Court sentenced Perry to 4 years: 2 years initial confinement in state prison followed by 2 years of extended supervision. Perry was also ordered to undergo an alcohol and other drug assessment. In addition, Perry must pay over $1,000 in fines and costs.

Angelo J Perry, 31 years of age, from Hayward has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 5th offense.

At approximately 1:00 pm a Wisconsin State Patrol trooper stopped a vehicle for an equipment violation on County Road B east of Hayward. During the course of the stop it was determined that the driver, Angelo J. Perry, had been drinking. Field sobriety tests were done and the driver was arrested for 5th offense OWI, a felony. The driver was also in violation of the terms of his probation. Mr. Angelo was transported to the Hayward Hospital for a blood test and then taken to the Sawyer County Jail to be held for court.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
