SAWYER COUNTY -- A man from Hayward, WI is facing felony charges for physical abuse of a child after the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office investigated information received from the Joliet Illinois Police Department about the alleged abuse.
A criminal complaint was filed on August 28, 2020, charging Ronald W. RIngwald, age 61, of Hayward, WI, with Class H Felony Physical Abuse of Child - Intentionally Cause Bodily Harm and Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct for an incident that allegedly occurred at the end of July 2020.
The Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office received information from the Joliet Police Department on August 6, 2020, which indicated that a child had reported that an incident of physical abuse had occurred in the Township of Lenroot, Sawyer County.
The victim stated that an argument occurred between the victim and Ringwald regarding the treatment of a cat and during the argument Ringwald grabbed the victim by the throat and then struck the victim multiple times on the left side of the face with a closed fist.
Detectives interviewed Ringwald who acknowledged that an incident had occurred, but initially stated that he had merely pushed the victim away from himself. Ringwald ultimately stated that he had grabbed the victim by the collar of the shirt and then spun the victim away from himself, with the victim then falling and striking a cabinet with the side of their head, according to the criminal complaint filed against him.
Ringwald was placed on a $5,000 signature bond and is scheduled to make an initial appearance on his charges in October 2020.
