BARRON COUNTY -- Wisconsin Governor Tony Evers has once again extended the application deadline for Barron County Judge. The position first was announced on May 31, 2023, and had a deadline of June 23, 2023. Multiple sources told DrydenWire that two people had originally applied.
Seemingly not happy with the candidates, Evers extended the deadline in late July until August 11th. DrydenWire sources said that at least 3 others applied for the gig following the extension and have all been interviewed remotely.
After nearly 4 months since the position was announced, and at least 5 interviews since the original announcement, Evers' interview panel has not landed on "their guy." Therefore, today, Evers' Office has officially extended the deadline and is accepting applications on "a rolling basis."
At this point, it is unclear if anyone would want the appointment with the spring deadline for Judge candidacy fast approaching as by the time they were appointed they would have to take out papers and declare their candidacy for the position within weeks of the appointment. Perhaps this is by design or perhaps they just haven't found the right person that aligns with Governor Ever's politics.
Meanwhile, Barron County is left with just 2 Judges which may have an impact on the judicial system sooner rather than later.

MADISON -- Gov. Tony Evers announced on May 31, 2023, that he is seeking applicants for the Barron County Circuit Court – Branch 2 and subsequently extended the application deadline. The governor announced today he is accepting applications on a rolling basis until the vacancy is filled.
The appointment will fill the vacancy created by Judge J. M. Bitney’s retirement, effective Sept. 15, 2023. The new judge will complete a term ending July 31, 2024.
