Gov. Evers Delivers Radio Address Highlighting His 2025-27 Executive And Capital Budget Investments To Support The UW System Statewide During The Year Of The Kid

MADISON — Gov. Tony Evers today delivered his weekly radio address highlighting efforts in his 2025-27 Executive and Capital Budget investments to support the University of Wisconsin (UW) System statewide during the 2025 Year of the Kid.

Gov. Evers last month released his 2025-27 Executive Budget—the most pro-kid budget in state history—aimed at doing what’s best for our kids at every stage, in every way, and no matter where they live in our state. The governor’s proposal makes the largest investment in Wisconsin’s kids in any budget by any governor in state history, including investing in public education at every level.

Gov. Evers’ budget proposal delivers on his promise to the people of Wisconsin to provide the largest two-year increase for the UW System in state history with a more than $856 million investment over the biennium to prevent further campus closures, layoffs, and program cuts and ensure the UW System remains the crown jewel of Wisconsin’s workforce and economy for future generations.

Earlier this week, Gov. Evers also released his 2025-27 Capital Budget proposal, which builds upon his 2025-27 Executive Budget and includes significant investments to help build, improve, and modernize state infrastructure, including millions of investments on UW System campuses. The governor is proposing a transformative investment of nearly $1.6 billion in capital improvement projects across the UW System, ensuring campuses statewide remain at the forefront of education, research, and innovation.

Hey there, folks. Governor Tony Evers here.

I’ve always believed that what’s best for our kids is what's best for our state. It’s why I declared 2025 the Year of the Kid and am proposing the most pro-kid budget of any governor of any budget in state history. My budget invests in public education at every level, from early childhood education to K-12 to our state's technical colleges and the UW System.

Our ability to compete and be successful—to have a strong economy and workforce, to retain our homegrown talent, to solve problems in our smallest towns to our largest cities, and to make life better for everyone who calls our state home—depends on our UW System.

But, after years of attacks and disinvestment, UW is facing campus closures and program cuts, students are facing tuition increases, and faculty and staff are facing layoffs.

And with new efforts from the Trump Administration to cut higher education funding and dismantle the U.S. Department of Education, things for UW could get a whole lot worse.

That’s why it’s up to us to invest in our UW System, defend it, and protect its promise for future generations, and my 2025-27 Executive and Capital Budgets will do just that.

We must invest in making higher education more affordable and attainable for students across our state, efforts to recruit and attract students and workers to Wisconsin, and help ensure we have the best faculty and staff for the job.

It’s why I am proposing the largest two-year increase for our UW System in state history and a transformational investment to repair old buildings and modernize aging infrastructure across our UW System. We have to keep making sure our UW System remains at the forefront of education, research, and innovation.

So, I look forward to working with the Legislature to make investing in our UW System a top priority and to invest in our kids at every stage, in every way.

Thank you.
