POLK COUNTY - An ATV crash in Polk County near the town of Apple River has resulted in one fatality, according to a press release from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.

On Thursday, April 21, 2022, at around 8:00 p.m. The Polk County Sheriff’s Office Dispatch Center was notified of an ATV Crash on 168th Ave, near 80th Street in the Town of Apple River.
Upon the arrival of Sheriff’s Deputies, they found a lone male, who was unresponsive near a rolled-over ATV.
It appeared the east-bound ATV veered into the ditch and upon entering onto the soft shoulder, the vehicle began to roll over. The victim appeared to have severe injuries to his head and was not wearing a helmet.
Fire and EMS personnel attended to the victim, and he was later flown to Regions Hospital.
The operator did not survive his injuries and later died in the hospital. The operator was 67-year-old Mark Rice from Isanti, Minnesota.
Assisting the Polk County Sheriff’s Office were the Apple River Fire and First Responders, Amery Ambulance Service, Life Link air ambulance, and the Wisconsin DNR.
This incident is currently under investigation by the Wisconsin DNR and the Polk County Sheriff’s Office.
