POLK COUNTY (DrydenWire) - In the early hours of Sunday, May 19, 2024, a tragic car accident on Highway 35, just south of Milltown, resulted in the deaths of two individuals. At approximately 6a, an ambulance traveling on the highway discovered a crashed vehicle in the west ditch.
The vehicle, which had been heading northbound on State Highway 35 near the intersection of County Highway G, appeared to have crossed the centerline on a curve, entered the west ditch, struck several trees, and rolled over.
Upon investigating the scene, the ambulance crew found two deceased victims: the driver, who was still inside the vehicle, and a passenger, who had been ejected and was found outside the vehicle.
Deputies from the Polk County Sheriff’s Office arrived at the scene to conduct a thorough investigation.
Initial findings suggest that the crash occurred during the hours of darkness.
The identities of the victims have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office is continuing to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Polk County Sheriff’s Office expressed their gratitude to the crew of Northwestern Municipal Ambulance service and the Polk County Medical Examiner for their assistance at the scene.
