Extraordinary Nurse Recognized with DAISY Award

Extraordinary Nurse Recognized with DAISY Award

HAYWARD, Wis. -- Registered Nurse Eileen Froemel, was presented with a DAISY Award for Extraordinary nurses at Hayward Area Memorial Hospital & Water’s Edge on Thursday, July 12. The award is a special way to recognize the wonderful care she provides. The award is part of the DAISY Foundation's program to acknowledge the super-human efforts nurses perform every day. The DAISY Award for Extraordinary Nurses has been adopted by healthcare facilities around the world to celebrate nurses for their extraordinary care and compassion.

Eileen was nominated for the award by a patient who recently delivered her baby in the Family Birthplace of HAMH. She described Eileen as going above and beyond to ensure that she, her husband and baby were all taken care of during their stay. In her letter she stated, “I firmly believe that Eileen deserves this award for all the hard work and sincere dedication that she puts in to her job and patients. I can’t imagine having a more caring and compassionate nurse than her!”

The not-for-profit DAISY Foundation is based in Glen Ellen, CA, and was established by family members in memory of J. Patrick Barnes. Patrick died at the age of 33 in late 1999 from complications of Idiopathic Thrombocytopenic Purpura (ITP), a little known but not uncommon auto-immune disease. The care Patrick and his family received from nurses while he was ill inspired this unique means of thanking nurses for making a profound difference in the lives of their patients and patient families.

DAISY Committee chair and Registered Nurse, Trina Sjostrom said, “We are proud to be among the healthcare organizations participating in the DAISY Award program. Nurses are heroes every day. It’s important that our nurses know their work is highly valued, and The DAISY Foundation provides a way for us to do that.”

HAMH will present two DAISY awards to extraordinary nurses each year. If you would like to nominate a special nurse please visit our website to print a nomination form.
