Extension Washburn County is excited to partner with the Shell Lake Public Library throughout the summer on a new StoryWalk® project. StoryWalk® projects provide an interactive outdoor opportunity to learn financial capability and reading literacy skills as well as supporting physical activity and adult child interaction. The children’s books used in this project come from the UW-Madison Division of Extension 3D - Dollars During Development program and are written for ages 3-9.
This project will kick off with a StoryWalk® display outside the Shell Lake Public Library from May 22nd – May 29th. The books are mounted on yard signs with guiding questions to help adults and children read the story and discuss the concepts presented by the book. After completing the StoryWalk® adults and children are invited back into the library to complete a short survey on the experience. A parent guide to the book will be available for all adults completing the survey and children can be entered, once for each story display, in a drawing to win a book bundle at the end of each StoryWalk®. A new story will be featured each month May – August on the library grounds.
The May StoryWalk® will be Sheep in a Shop by Nancy Shaw. This is a whimsical story about a lovely lot of sheep who journey off to the store to buy a special gift for a birthday celebration. There are decisions to be made, dilemmas to solve, and payments to make. We look forward to you joining us on this new reading adventure.
