Sheriff Tracy Finch: "For the past 31 years, April 19th has been 'Al Day'"

End Of Watch: Al Albee - April 19, 1991

Editor's note: the following is a personal message from Burnett County Sheriff Tracy Finch regarding Burnett County Sheriff's Deputy Allen Albee who was shot and killed in the line of duty on April 19, 1991.

BURNETT COUNTY — For the past 31 years, April 19th has been “Al Day." On April 19, 1991, police officers from around the area, responded to the Village of Webster, near the elementary school, in an attempt to take an armed individual into custody who was wanted in connection with a shooting in Minnesota.

It takes a special kind of person to run toward danger and Al was one of the most courageous people I have ever known.

While approaching the subject, Allen was shot and killed and Polk County Deputy Michael Severson suffered a gunshot wound that damaged his spinal cord and left him paralyzed from the neck down.

Please join me in remembering Allen Arthur Albee, Burnett County Deputy Sheriff #515, for giving his life in service to his community. I miss him. The world lost a great man that day.
