Donald Trump Wins 2024 Presidential Election, Securing Historic Comeback

In a dramatic political resurgence, Donald Trump has been declared the winner of the 2024 U.S. presidential election, reclaiming the White House after a four-year hiatus. Trump, 78, is now the first president in more than 130 years — and only the second in history after Grover Cleveland — to secure a non-consecutive second term.

His victory over Vice President Kamala Harris caps an improbable comeback for the twice-impeached former president, who left office in 2021 amidst controversy over the January 6 Capitol riot and faced criminal convictions for business fraud earlier this year.

Nearly every major news outlet has projected trump to win more than the 270 electoral votes needed with The Hill’s Decision Desk HQ (DDHQ) so far projecting 286. Trump is also leading in the popular vote. Harris has not yet conceded the race.

The 2024 election cycle featured several extraordinary events, including Trump’s criminal trial during the campaign, two assassination attempts against him, and a shift on the Democratic ticket after President Joe Biden stepped down.

With his victory, Trump will also become the oldest president ever inaugurated, surpassing Biden’s record by five months.
