SPOONER, WI -- Join DrydenWire.com founder Ben Dryden and (filling in for Barron County Sheriff Chris Fitzgerald) Dirk Miller on this week's "Positive Tuesday W/ Ben & Fitzy" live Tuesday morning!
Not sure who Dirk Miller is? We asked him to provide a bio which you can read below.
I’m way too old. I like to refer it to as getting wiser. My interest in weather and photography started when I was 6 years old. Anytime there were clouds in the sky I would be out taking pictures of them. What is funny, at that young age I was afraid of lightning. However, I loved watching it.
When I turned 16 I started to chase storms. That is when I decided to face my fear of lightning, and started to take pictures of it. Nowadays, I probably push the limits more than I should with it.
I started working at the age of 15 in a factory. I had an interest in welding. I followed that and worked in 3 different factories. Welding and setting up auto punch presses. So I had to take vacation time to go storm chasing. I used to chase the southern plains for many years. Now I only chase in WI, and sometimes MN.
When I was younger I wanted to be a Meteorologist, however, mathematics was not my strong point. What I found out about storm chasing early on was one had to learn how to forecast. Back in the day, there was no internet so one would stop at airports to get surface data charts, or at the NWS offices if one was close enough. Fast forward to the internet days. It is now easy to get all the info one needs, and have live radar out in the field.
My thirst to learn how to forecast became stronger. I took some online classes and studied forecasting. Then I started a blog years ago where I did my forecasting. I was sick of watching the weather on the news and they always seem to be wrong.
On Facebook, I forecast on two different pages. I got into videography back in the early 2000s (when I started to chase winter storms). Many of my videos have been on TWC and all of the major news networks.
I’ve been storm chasing for 40 years. My goal is to make it to 50 years.
Needless to say, this should be an informative show!
The show is scheduled to start at 8:30a on Tuesday, January 3, 2023, on DrydenWire’s Facebook page. If you’re unable to watch live, a recording will be published on DrydenWire’s YouTube channel and DrydenWire.com later in the day.
