Court Sentences Third Person On 2019 Sawyer Drug Bust

SAWYER COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced the third person charged in a Sawyer County drug bust in September 2019 that was the result of an investigation into suspected drug trafficking.

DrydenWire published a post in October 2019 regarding the charges that had been filed against three people, Lynn Begay, Alexander Gillespie, Sr., and David Denasha, following the drug bust.

The three were residing together and the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Department received information indicating that controlled substances were being sold out of their residence. A search warrant was obtained and executed at their residence.

During the search of the residence law enforcement located 6.31 pounds of marijuana, 173 THC Vape Cartridges, 43 grams of Psilocybin mushrooms, $19, 244 in US Currency, $190 in Australian currency, $187 in Central Bank of the Bahamas Currency, vacuum bag sealer, a 2,000-gram capacity digital scale, multiple glass bongs and pipes, along with other packaging materials including sandwich size bags.

Begay, Gillespie, and Denasha were each charged with Class F Felony Possess w/ Intent-THC (>2500-10,000 g) Second & Subsequent Offense, Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place Second & Subsequent Offense, Class G Felony Possess w/ Intent-Psilocin (<=100 g) Second & Subsequent Offense, and Misdemeanor Drug Paraphernalia.

Online circuit court records show that the court has now sentenced all three following a sentencing hearing on September 7, 2021, for Denasha.

The Court ordered Denasha to serve 3 years of probation with 9 months county jail on charges of Misdemeanor Possession of THC, amended from the original charges filed against him. Denasha is also ordered to complete any counseling and programming deemed appropriate by a Wisconsin Department of Corrections agent, and follow through.

Lynn Begay and Alexander Gillespie, Sr.


Gillespie, Sr., was previously sentenced in January 2020 and Begay was previously sentenced in February 2020. The Court sentenced them each to 3 years of probation on convictions for Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place Second & Subsequent Offense. The remaining charges against them were dismissed but read in. Conditions of Probation require them to undergo an AODA assessment within follow-through with recommendations and complete any counseling deemed appropriate by a Wisconsin Department of Corrections agent.
