POLK COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a man on his convictions stemming from a shooting incident that occurred in January 2021 in Polk County, WI.
DrydenWire published an article on March 11, 2021, regarding the shooting incident which led to charges being filed against Chad Transue.
Video footage that captured the incident resulted in the identification of Transue. Charges of Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide, Repeater; and Class G Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Repeater were filed against Transue.
Online circuit court records show that at a hearing on April 22, 2021, Transue entered a plea of Guilty to an amended charge of Class G Felony Endangering Safety by Use of Dangerous Weapon Discharging a Weapon. Transue also entered a plea of Guilty to a charge of Class G Felony Possession of Firearm by a Felon. The remaining charges filed against Transue were dismissed but read in.
At a hearing on September 2, 2021, the Court ordered that Transue serve a 12-year sentence on his conviction for Class G Felony Endangering Safety by Use of Dangerous Weapon Discharging a Weapon. Transue is to serve 8 years Initial Confinement followed by 4 years Extended Supervision with 212 days credit for times already served.
Consecutive to that sentence, the Court ordered an imposed and stayed sentence with 4 years of probation on his conviction of Class G Felony Possession of Firearm by a Felon. If probation should be revoked, Transue will face a 6-year sentence: 3 years of initial confinement followed by 3 years of extended supervision.
Conditions of supervision will require Transue to undergo an Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment, Anger Management Evaluation & follow through with recommendations.
