BARRON COUNTY -- A Rice Lake, WI man has been sentenced on his conviction for 6th Offense Operating While Intoxicated (OWI) which stemmed from a single-vehicle crash incident that occurred on January 31, 2020, on Highway 53 in Barron County.
DrydenWire reported previously that charges of Class G Felony 6th Offense OWI had been filed against Anthony Ferguson, of Rice Lake, WI, after Barron County Law Enforcement responded to a single-vehicle crash near the 152-mile marker on Highway 53.
Ferguson was identified as the driver of the vehicle, according to the criminal complaint filed against him in Barron County Circuit Court. While attempting to get out of the vehicle through the rear hatchback due to the position of the vehicle following the crash, Ferguson lost his balance and fell face-first into the snow. While speaking with the Deputies regarding the incident, Ferguson stated that he was experiencing head pain and was transported for medical care.
Online circuit court records show that Ferguson appeared by video from Prairie Du Chien Correctional Institution for a sentencing hearing on his conviction for Class G Felony 6th Offense OWI in Barron County Circuit Court on November 18, 2020. Ferguson had previously entered a plea of Guilty to his charge at a hearing in July 2020. A second charge of 6th Offense Operating With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration was dismissed but read in.
The Court ordered a sentence of 5 and ½ years for Ferguson; 2 and ½ years of initial confinement in state prison to be followed by 3 years of extended supervision. Conditions of supervision will require Ferguson to maintain absolute sobriety and complete any and all evaluations, counseling, treatment, and follow-up recommended by his probation agent. Ferguson will be required to complete an Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment and comply with recommended follow-up treatment.
