POLK COUNTY -- A man has been sentenced in Polk County Circuit Court on felony charges stemming from a two-vehicle head-on collision that occurred in September 2019 that left one injured.
DrydenWire.com reported in September 2019 that Adam Weiler was facing charges of Class F Felony Injury by Intoxicated Use/Vehicle, Repeater; Class H Felony Operating While Intoxicated 4th Offense; Class H Felony Operate While Intoxicated/Cause Injury 2+; Class I Felony Knowingly Operating While Revoked (Cause Great Bodily Harm); and Misdemeanor Ignition Interlock Device Tampering/Failure to Install/Violate Court Order following a collision that occurred on August 31, 2019.
Weiler was traveling northbound and attempted to navigate a curve, when his vehicle crossed the centerline, colliding head-on with another vehicle that was traveling southbound. The driver of that vehicle was injured and transported for medical care.
At a hearing on September 28, 2020, the Court sentenced Weiler on a conviction of Class F Felony Injury by Intoxicated Use/Vehicle, Repeater. The remaining charges filed against Weiler were dismissed but read-in at a hearing in July 2020.
Weiler received a 12-year sentence; 7 years of initial confinement in state prison, to be followed by 5 years of extended supervision.
Conditions of supervision will require Weiler to undergo a mental health assessment, follow through with any programming and he may not possess or consume alcohol.
