Court Orders Life Sentence For Man Convicted Of Homicide In Fatal Shooting

BARRON COUNTY -- (DrydenWire.com) -- The Court has sentenced Andrew Brunette for his conviction of homicide in the shooting death of Garrett Macone.

Brunette was found guilty in November 2021 by Jury for the 2020 fatal shooting that resulted in the death of 23-year-old Garrett Macone.

In September 2020, charges of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide were filed against Brunette following the investigation into the shooting death of Macone.

The Barron County Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call shortly before 1p on September 20, 2020, from a woman reporting that she had found her 23-year-old son deceased outside her residence in Chetek Township. The subsequent investigation led authorities to Brunette as the suspect in the shooting.

According to the criminal complaint filed against Brunette, he stated that he had taken a 9mm handgun and extra clothes with him to the deceased’s residence; entered through an unlocked front door; located the deceased asleep in bed, and fired the handgun twice to ensure that death had occurred. He then moved the deceased outside the residence with the intent of removing the body from the property to dispose of it. He used towels from the residence to wrap his own clothing and threw it away in a dumpster; he also threw the handgun into a creek.

Brunette was taken into custody and placed on a $1,000,000 cash bond at a bond hearing shortly thereafter. A jury trial was held in November 2021, regarding his case and the Jury returned with a verdict of Guilty. The Court entered a judgment of conviction finding Brunette Guilty of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.

Brunette appeared most recently on January 7, 2022, for a sentencing hearing on his conviction. According to online circuit court records the Court heard additional testimony at the sentencing hearing from law enforcement, as well as victim impact statements, and arguments from both the State and defense for Brunette.

The Court ordered Brunette to serve a Life Sentence for his conviction of 1st Degree Intentional Homicide.
