SAWYER COUNTY (DrydenWire) — An investigation into stolen catalytic converters led authorities in Sawyer and Washburn Counties to Nathan Conover, age 37, of Hayward, WI, who has now been convicted on multiple misdemeanor theft charges.

The case began in May 2023 when a Washburn County junkyard owner reported a suspicious attempt to sell catalytic converters, triggering a coordinated law enforcement effort that linked Conover to the theft of converters from transit buses. DNA evidence later confirmed his involvement.

Conover was sentenced in Washburn County in March 2025.

Conover has now been sentenced in Sawyer County Court for convictions from his three court cases there during a hearing on July 22, 2205.
