BURNETT COUNTY -- The Court has sentenced a Webster, WI man on convictions for firearms-related charges stemming from an incident that occurred in June 2021.
DrydenWire reported on July 15, 2021, that charges had been filed against Thomas Brown following law enforcement’s investigation into a report that Brown had discharged a firearm in the vicinity of a building and two witnesses.
According to the witnesses, Brown had been upset and intoxicated and he had discharged a firearm into the ground near a concrete frame where the two witnesses were working.
When law enforcement made contact with Brown, he allegedly admitted to consuming alcohol prior to arriving at the cabin, and to shooting a firearm in the area where the witnesses were; however, the criminal complaint also states that Brown told Deputies that he didn’t aim the firearm at either of the two witnesses. A short-barreled shotgun was located inside Brown’s truck.
Charges filed against Brown included Class G Felony Recklessly Endangering Safety; Class H Felony Possession of Short-Barreled Shotgun; Class H Felony False Imprisonment; Class A Misdemeanor Discharge Firearm Within 100 Yards of a Building; and Misdemeanor Possession-Operation of a Firearm While Intoxicated.
Two non-criminal citations are also filed against Brown, charging him with Operate While Intoxicated 1st Offense; and Operate Without Valid License. In a separate Burnett County Circuit Court case, Brown was charged with two counts of Class H Felony Bail Jumping; details of that case are not known to DrydenWire.
Online circuit court records show that Brown appeared for a hearing on September 27, 2021, and pleaded Guilty to his charges of Class A Misdemeanor Discharge Firearm Within 100 Yards of a Building; Misdemeanor Operate Firearm While Intoxicated; and Operate While Intoxicated 1st Offense. All other charges filed against Brown were dismissed but read in.
The Court ordered withheld sentences for Brown on both firearms-related convictions with 2 years probation on each, to be served concurrently and 4 days of conditional jail time. Conditions of probation will require Brown to undergo an Alcohol and Other Drug Assessment and follow through with recommendations.
Brown was also ordered to pay court costs, fees, and assessments of nearly $1,700.00 for all his convictions.
