WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has ordered a consecutive prison sentence for a man convicted of 7th offense operating while intoxicated in Washburn County.
DrydenWire reported in October 2020, that Robert Truitt had been arrested for Operating While Intoxicated 7th Offense.
A Wisconsin State Patrol Trooper made contact with Truitt’s vehicle which was stopped in the lane of traffic on Keller Road. Field sobriety tests were conducted, and then Truitt was taken into custody. Online circuit court records show that Truitt was placed on a $2,500 cash bond at a hearing on October 26, 2020.
Charges of Class F Felony Operating While Intoxicated 7th Offense; Class F Felony Operating With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration; and Misdemeanor Operate While Revoked were filed against Truitt. The case against Truitt was subsequently scheduled for a jury trial in April 2021, however, the trial was later taken off the court calendar and Truitt instead appeared for a plea hearing in June 2021.
Truitt appeared most recently for a hearing on July 30, 2021, when the Court sentenced him on his conviction for OWI 7th offense. The remaining charges against Truitt were dismissed at the hearing in June.
The Court ordered a 6-year sentence for Truitt; 3 years of initial confinement in state prison to be followed by 3 years of extended supervision with credit for 278 days already served in confinement. Truitt also was ordered to take AODA classes; comply with any and all programming recommended by the Department of Corrections (DOC); and to pay over $3,000 in costs and fines.
The Wisconsin DOC’s online records indicate that Truitt was placed back into the custody of the DOC in March 2021 with a possible release date in October 2021. Truitt’s new sentence for his Washburn County conviction will be served consecutively to any other prison sentence that he is already serving.
