BARRON COUNTY -- A nationwide arrest warrant has been issued for Mohammed Shire after he failed to appear in Barron County Circuit Court regarding charges of Homicide by Intoxicated Use of a Vehicle stemming from a fatal crash that occurred in August 2021.

A Barron County Deputy conducted a traffic stop for speeding around midnight on August 6, 2021, according to a criminal complaint filed in Barron County Circuit Court. When the Deputy approached the vehicle he saw two males in the vehicle along with open alcohol containers. The Deputy told the driver to step out of the vehicle because the Deputy wanted to conduct field sobriety testing. The criminal complaint goes on to state that while the Deputy attempted to speak with the driver, the driver stated that he wanted to get something from his vehicle. After a brief struggle with the Deputy, the driver got back into their vehicle and left the scene at a high rate of speed. A vehicle pursuit ensued and continued for about 7 miles until Deputies located the vehicle where it had crashed into a tree. The passenger in the vehicle was pronounced deceased at the scene of the crash.;
The driver of the vehicle was identified as Mohammed Shire. In the criminal complaint filed against Shire, the passenger is identified only by initials. Shire was transported to the emergency room, where he was medically cleared and a sample of his blood was taken for testing.
Shire was transported to the Barron County Jail. At a hearing on August 9, 2021, the Court placed Shire on a $5,000 cash bond which was posted that same day according to online circuit court records.
On September 29, 2021, an amended complaint was filed against Shire charging him with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer; Class C Felony Homicide By Intoxicated Use of Vehicle (2nd+); and Class C Felony Homicide by Use of Vehicle With Prohibited Alcohol Concentration (2nd+). Shire had initially been charged with Class I Felony Vehicle Operator Flee/Elude Officer and Operating a Motor Vehicle While Intoxicated (OWI) - 6th Offense on a criminal complaint that was filed on August 9, 2021.
Shire was scheduled to appear in Barron County Circuit Court on November 9, 2021, for a preliminary examination hearing. According to online records, Shire failed to appear and the Court was advised that Shire may have fled the country. The Court issued a nationwide arrest warrant for Shire.
