Court Accepts Plea From Woman Charged With Conspiracy To Commit Sexual Assault

WASHBURN COUNTY -- The Court has accepted a plea from a woman charged with conspiracy to commit sexual assault of a child in Washburn County.

In June 2020, charges were filed against Aaron Miller and Amanda Nickels for allegedly conspiring to commit sexual assault of a child.

According to criminal complaints filed in Washburn County Circuit Court, Miller and Nickels met through an online social media platform. Miller sent messages to Nickels repeatedly telling her that she needed to find a young female for him to have intercourse with, and Nickels ultimately agreed to do that. In May 2020, the Rice Lake Police Department received information that an adult female residing in Spooner, WI had asked a 13-year old juvenile if the juvenile and some of the juvenile’s friends would have sex with the adult female and her adult boyfriend.

The subsequent investigation led authorities to Nickels. When officers interviewed her, she cooperated and provided information regarding Miller and what he had asked her to do. She also provided information regarding what Miller’s plans were once they found a young female. The criminal complaint contained graphic details of what Miller had stated he was planning to do. Miller was later taken into custody in Spooner on June 5, 2020.

Miller was charged with Class B Felony Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault, with Intent to Cause Pregnancy to that Person; Class C Felony Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age, and Class C Felony Use of a Computer to Facilitate a Child Sex Crime.

Nickels was charged with Class B Felony Conspiracy to Commit First Degree Sexual Assault/Great Bodily Harm, and Class C Felony Conspiracy to Commit 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child.

At a hearing on June 28, 2021, the Court ordered a 10-year sentence for Miller on a conviction for Class C Felony Conspiracy to Commit Sexual Assault of a Child Under 16 Years of Age. Miller is to serve 4 years of initial confinement followed by 6 years of extended supervision. The remaining charges against Miller were dismissed but read in at a hearing on June 17, 2021.

Online court records show that Nickels had been previously found incompetent to proceed with her criminal charges following a hearing in September 2020. However, at a subsequent hearing in March 2021 during which a doctor testified to the Court, the Hon. Angeline Winton found that Nickels was now competent to proceed and her court case was scheduled for further hearings.

Nickels appeared most recently on April 6, 2022, and Judge Winton accepted her plea of Guilty to her charge of Class C Felony Conspiracy to Commit 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of a Child with a 5-year deferred judgment of conviction agreement. Her remaining charge was dismissed but read in. Details of the conditions of the agreement are not listed in online court records.
