BURNETT COUNTY -- The Court has accepted a deferred sentence agreement for a man originally facing charges of attempted homicide for an incident that occurred in May 2020.
DrydenWire previously published a post in June 2020, stating that Maurice Corbine was facing charges of Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide; Class E Felony Aggravated Battery; Class C Felony Mayhem; Class D Felony First Degree Reckless Injury; Class F Felony Second Degree Reckless Injury; Class F Felony Recklessly Endangering Safety following his arrest for an incident that occurred on May 15, 2020.
Maurice was arrested after Burnett County law enforcement responded to a call of two men fighting and then located an unconscious man, later identified as Bryan Corbine. The criminal complaint filed against Maurice states that he knocked Bryan to the ground with a folding chair and then dropped a coffee can filled with cement onto Bryan’s head. The coffee can was found to weigh over 13 lbs. Medical personnel confirmed to Law Enforcement that Bryan had sustained multiple facial fractures and experienced bleeding on his brain.
The case was scheduled for a Jury Trial on December 14, 2021, however, online records show that Maurice appeared for a plea hearing in Burnett County Circuit Court on December 2, 2021, and the Court accepted a proposed 2-year Deferred Sentence Agreement on a reduced charge of Class I Felony Substantial Battery-Intend Bodily Harm.
The remaining charges that had been filed against Maurice were dismissed but read in as part of the plea deal.
Details of the conditions of the agreement were not listed, however, online court records indicate that if Maurice successfully completes the conditions, the charge of Class I Felony Substantial Battery-Intend Bodily Harm will be dismissed.
