County-Wide Virtual Fishing Contest To Be Held On Opening Weekend

WASHBURN COUNTY -- Calling all anglers! A Washburn County-wide fishing contest is scheduled for Saturday, May 7th and Sunday, May 8th, 2022, to celebrate the opening of fishing season in Wisconsin. Washburn County Tourism Association and Washburn County Economic Development Corporation have teamed up to offer prizes for the top three largest fish caught in each category, measured by length. Cost to enter is $5, plus a Fish Donkey virtual fishing contest fee of $3. Prizes will be either cash or gift certificates.

  • 1st Place: $125 Value
  • 2nd Place: $50 Value
  • 3rd Place: $25 Value

Eligible species include Walleye, Northern Pike, Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass (South of Highway 77) and Bluegill. Everyone is welcome to participate on any public Washburn County lake, river or stream. The fishing contest will be run via the FishDonkey virtual fishing contest app. All fish entered in the contest will be photographed, measured and recorded via the FishDonkey app.

To enter the contest:

  1. Download the FishDonkey app
  2. Tap: Fish in a Tournament
  3. Join: 2022 WashCo Fishing Opener Contest

Participants should review all the rules and regulations on the app to ensure good sportsmanship in the contest. Participants must use a commercially made measuring device which marks “0” and has at least ¼” inch lines. No handmade measuring devices will be allowed. All participants are expected to follow high standards of sportsmanship, courtesy, safety and conservation. Any participant who displays poor sportsmanship, violates any contest rules or brings unfavorable publicity to the sport of fishing could be disqualified.

All submissions must include at least two photographs:

  1. A picture of you holding the fish
  2. A picture of the fishing on the measuring device.

Fish should be recorded immediately and measurements noted by length. All entries must be received prior to the end of the tournament. View a full list of rules and regulations on the contest page in the FishDonkey App.
