WASHBURN COUNTY / (DrydenWire) -- A convicted sex offender will be released in the community and residing in Washburn County.
DrydenWire reported in February 2018, that Mark Dezek of Spooner, WI, was facing charges of Possession of Child P*rnography as well as charges for Manufacturing Marijuana following an investigation by the Wisconsin Division of Criminal Investigation (DCI), assisted by the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office.
A criminal complaint filed against Dezek stated that Dezek admitted to investigators that there “may be” images of child p*rnography on his phone and that he thought the children in the images were aged 7 to 16 years.
In the process of executing a search warrant at Dezek’s residence, investigating officers also found nearly 600 grams of marijuana; numerous marijuana seeds; over 600 gem bags; 2 smoking bongs; 2 marijuana grinders; and numerous other assorted items of drug paraphernalia.
Dezek was charged with 10 Counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child P*rnography; Class H Felony Manufacture THC (Marijuana) More Than 200 Grams but not More Than 1,000 Grams; Misdemeanor Possession of THC (Marijuana); and 2 Counts of Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
At a hearing in February 2019, the Court accepted pleas of No Contest from Dezek on 2 counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child P*rnography as well as his charge of Class H Felony Manufacture THC (Marijuana). The remainder of his charges were dismissed but read-in.
DrydenWire reported in April 2019, that the Court ordered an 8-year sentence on each of his convictions. Dezek was to serve 3 years of initial confinement in state prison, followed by 5 years of extended supervision. The Court ordered Dezek to serve the three sentences concurrently.
On February 1, 2022, the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office issued a Sex Offender Release bulletin stating that Dezek would be released from prison on February 8, 2022, and residing at W8957 County Hwy E, Spooner, WI.
Dezek will be under the supervision of local probation agents, placed on electronic monitoring, and will be required to register with the Wisconsin Sex Offender Registry Program for life.
