BURNETT COUNTY -- A criminal complaint has been filed in Burnett County Circuit Court against Douglas Nyren, of Siren, WI, a convicted sex offender, charging him with possessing multiple images of child pornography.
Nyren was taken into custody on February 5, 2021, after a forensic examination allegedly revealed images of child pornography on at least one electronic device identified as belonging to Nyren.
The criminal complaint filed against Nyren states that agents conducted a forensic examination of numerous images found on an electronic device in the possession of Nyren. This examination allegedly revealed the presence of multiple images of prepubescent children engaged in sexually explicit acts.
Law enforcement located Nyren at the Radio Shack store where he was working and he was taken into custody.
Online circuit court records show that Nyren appeared for a bond hearing on February 10, 2021, and the Court placed Nyren on a $5,000 cash bond. Nyren’s bond was posted the next day.
Nyren is charged with 5 counts of Class D Felony Possession of Child Pornography. If convicted as charged, Nyren faces a potential minimum sentence of 3 years confinement in state prison on each count.
In 2007 Nyren was convicted of Class C Felony 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child. In 2014 Nyren was convicted of Misdemeanor 4th Degree Sexual Assault and received a dismissal of another charge of Class C Felony 2nd Degree Sexual Assault of Child upon completion of a deferred sentence agreement. In 2020 Nyren plead guilty and was convicted on a charge of Class H Felony Sex Offender Fail To Update Information.
Nyren is scheduled to make an initial appearance in March 2021 regarding his criminal charges.
