SAWYER COUNTY -- Charges of child abuse that were pending against Ronald Ringwald, of Hayward, WI, have been dismissed.
DrydenWire previously reported that Ringwald was charged with child abuse in August 2020 following law enforcement’s investigation into allegations about an incident of physical abuse that had allegedly occurred in the Township of Lenroot, Sawyer County.
The criminal complaint filed against Ringwald alleged that during an argument he grabbed the victim by the throat and then struck the victim multiple times on the left side of the face with a closed fist.
During an interview with law enforcement, Ringwald acknowledged that an incident had occurred, but stated that he had merely pushed the victim away from himself, which led to the victim falling and striking their head.
Multiple hearings were held regarding the case, and it was scheduled for a Jury Trial in April 2022. However, online circuit court records show that at a hearing on March 16, 2022, the Sawyer County District Attorney’s Office advised the Court that the State had lost contact with the alleged victim.
The State made a motion during the hearing on March 16, 2022, to dismiss the case and the Hon. John Yackel granted the motion, and vacated Ringwald’s bail bond, removing the case from the trial calendar.
