WASHBURN COUNTY -- Do you think your Sheriff should be engaged with the communities they serve? I do!! That is one reason that I am determined to become Washburn County's next Sheriff.
My background has prepared me to be a successful leader. I have a bachelor's degree in business management where I worked for 12 years prior to beginning my law enforcement career. During that time, I managed an account valued at $1.2 million employing 6 subordinate managers and 65 employees. My law enforcement career began 16 years ago. I had the privilege of being promoted to Patrol Sergeant where I supervised 10 officers. I have been a Field Training Officer for 12 years where I have successfully trained sixteen law enforcement officers. I am also a Wisconsin Law Enforcement State Certified instructor in Vehicle Contacts and Emergency Vehicle Operations and Control. I have been a certified Emergency Medical Technician for the past twenty years. I spent that time helping families and their loved ones through some of the most tragic times of their lives. I have always worked hard to prepare myself for the “next step” in my career. This is no different. I am ready for this challenge.
It has been six months since I announced my candidacy for Washburn County Sheriff, and I have attended 70 events and meetings with the citizens of Washburn County. I firmly believe that the Sheriff needs to be engaged with the people they serve. The responsibility of the Sheriff is so much more than “law and order”. The Sheriff is the face of law enforcement in Washburn County and the people deserve an open line of communication with the Sheriff. The position of the Sheriff is so much more than a “7-3” job. I will be a Sheriff who adjusts his schedule to the needs of the people. I will be present at local meetings and events because I want to continue to be a valued member of OUR COMMUNITY.
One of the most frequently asked questions I get while on the campaign trail is: “The Sheriff has been in office three years now. Where has he been? I have emailed and called the Sheriff in the past and never received a reply.” The Sheriff has been all but absent from the public eye. The people of Washburn County deserve a Sheriff who seeks out their feedback and open communications with them.
I will be a Sheriff of the people. I will build stronger relationships not only with the citizens of Washburn County but also the partners we work closely with. As Sheriff, I WILL:
- Meet quarterly with the police chiefs within the county to discuss the issues that affect our individual jurisdictions.
- Reach out and build relationships with Sheriffs of other counties, some who have not met the current Sheriff.
- Work closely with our fire and EMS partners to develop training that will benefit all emergency responders better preparing us for the unexpected nature of our jobs.
- Host round table meet and greet sessions with the citizens of Washburn County to hear their concerns and share my vision of the future of law enforcement.
- Develop a training program that will improve the level of basic training that officers get while in the policy academy. That training program will include enhancements to the annual in-service hours that are required by the State of Wisconsin.
- Communicate openly and being transparent with the citizens of Washburn County. The people deserve to know what is happening within their neighborhoods. I will utilize social media and press releases as appropriate.
