BURNETT COUNTY — A traffic stop for illegal window tint resulted in the arrest of a Minnesota man for OWI with a child passenger, according to an OWI News Release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

Kevin Cleo Salmela, 32 years of age, from Inver Grove Heights, MN. has been arrested by the Wisconsin State Patrol Spooner Post for operating a motor vehicle under the influence, 1st offense, with one child in the vehicle under the age of 16.

A WI State Patrol Trooper stopped a vehicle for illegal window tint in the Village of Webster.

The Trooper observed evidence of marijuana consumption and signs of impairment. A subsequent investigation, including field sobriety tests, showed that the male driver was operating a motor vehicle while under the influence of a controlled substance with a minor passenger. Mr. Salmela was arrested and transported to a local hospital for an evidentiary test of his blood. The three year old child was released to a responsible adult.

Mr. Salmela was charged with operating a motor vehicle with a restricted controlled substance in his blood and a minor passenger in the vehicle and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
