Barron County Jail’s HSED Program Celebrates 26 Graduates, Marking 173% Increase

BARRON COUNTY — The Barron County Jail's High School Equivalency Diploma (HSED) program continues to see remarkable success, with 26 inmates graduating during the 2023/2024 school year. This marks a 173% increase in graduates compared to the previous year, according to a press release from the Barron County Sheriff’s Office.

PRESS RELEASE

The Barron County Jail HSED program for the 2023/2024 school year had a total of 26 graduates. Last year we saw a 200% increase of the previous year with 15 graduates. This year we have a 173% increase. This program is done with the cooperation of Northwood Technical College. Northwood Tech was even able to handle a summer option for students to complete their competencies and graduate after the semester ended.

We are always looking at ways to keep people from returning to jail and one of those options is education. This program is funded by a grant through Northwood Technical College.

Thank you to our jail programming coordinator and the staff at Northwood Tech for helping make our community a better place.
