Auditions For First Master Chorale To Take Place In Spooner, Hayward

Auditions to be part of the area's first master chorale, Ave Generosa, will take place mid-January.

The brainchild of Ave Generosa, an auditioned group of exceptional choral vocalists from the Hayward, Spooner, Stone Lake, Sarona, Birchwood and surrounding areas, stemmed from a desire to bring master-level choral repertoire - and a medium through which to perform it - to northern Wisconsin.

Auditions will take place at two locations, with 4 different dates and times to allow for options in scheduling.

Audition materials are available in links on the facebook event page ("Ave Generosa Auditions").  The cost to participate if selected will be a folder fee of $40.00.

Spooner Auditions:

  • Spooner Wesleyan Church
  • Thursday, January 17 - 6-8pm
  • Sunday, January 20 - 6-8pm

Hayward Auditions:

  • Hayward High School Auditorium
  • Wednesday, January 16 - 4-5:30pm
  • Sunday, January 20 - 12:30pm - 3:00pm

Those auditioning should sing their selected part from the prepared piece "Ave Generosa," by Ola Gjeilo, and the first two phrases on the melody of the "Star-Spangled Banner."  Singers may be paired with other voices to listen for blend and ability to stay on part.

Once selections are made, they will be announced via the event page, as well as through email.

First rehearsal will take place from 5-8pm on Sunday, January 27th.  Additional rehearsals will take place the final Sunday of the month through April, with weekly rehearsals beginning in May (exception Memorial Day weekend).  Performances will take place Father's Day weekend, Friday night (June 14) in Hayward, Saturday afternoon (June 15) Stone Lake, Saturday night (June 16) Spooner, and a possible Sunday afternoon (June 17) encore performance, place and venue TBD.

The concert will feature 13 different pieces from varied genres. Russian, African, Latin, and contemporary acappella will all be features of the program, with singers expected to learn voice parts independently prior to rehearsals (except for rehearsal #1, where music and part recordings will be distributed). A rehearsal agenda and timeline for the season will also be distributed at rehearsal #1.
