POLK COUNTY -- A criminal complaint has been filed in Polk County Circuit Court charging a man with attempted homicide for a shooting incident that occurred on January 30, 2021, in Polk County.
On February 9, 2021, the Polk County Sheriff’s Office received information of a possible unreported shooting. Evidence uncovered during a separate investigation indicated that one person had sustained a gunshot wound during an incident on January 30, 2021, that occurred in Farmington Township.
Polk County Sheriff’s Investigators interviewed a witness to the shooting incident who had been identified through the separate investigation. This witness told Investigators that on January 30, 2021, he was at the residence where the alleged shooting occurred. Chad Transue was identified as another individual who was at the residence. The witness stated that he saw Transue sitting at a table inside the residence with a handgun in his possession.
The residence where the incident occurred was equipped with surveillance cameras outside. Footage from January 30, 2021, was retrieved. When investigators reviewed the footage for the time frame when the incident occurred, they saw a vehicle arrive at the residence that matched the description given by the witness for the vehicle that brought him to the residence.
The witness is seen exiting the vehicle and entering the residence. About 10 minutes later the witness is seen exiting the residence and approaching the vehicle, apparently talking to the vehicle’s occupants.
The video footage then shows the front door open and another male, identified as Chad Transue, appears on the front porch, raising his left arm while holding what appears to be a handgun and firing the handgun towards the vehicle. The video footage captured a muzzle flash and smoke coming out of the gun, according to the criminal complaint filed against Transue.
Transue then runs toward the vehicle, opens the door, and leans inside, appearing to struggle with one of the occupants. A muzzle flash inside the vehicle is seen on the video footage. Following that, Transue moves around the back of the vehicle and as he is approaching the passenger door the vehicle begins to accelerate in reverse. Transue is seen apparently pointing the firearm at the passenger door, and another muzzle flash is seen. The vehicle stops, then accelerates in reverse again, all the way down the drive, leaving the residence in a westbound direction.
The video footage goes on to capture Transue approaching the residence and receiving an item from another individual at the front door. Transue enters a vehicle parked at the residence and travels away in the same direction as the vehicle carrying the victim of the shooting.
Additional statements received from witnesses at the residence when the incident occurred told Investigators that Transue had made a statement about going outside to “rob” the occupants of the vehicle. Witnesses heard multiple gunshots after Transue exited the residence. After the vehicle left, one of the witnesses gave Transue a black rifle-type firearm that had been located in the kitchen area of the residence. Transue then left the residence in a vehicle in the same direction as the other vehicle, apparently in an attempt to locate the victim of the shooting incident.
Online circuit court records show that Transue appeared on February 2, 2021, for a bail hearing and was placed on a $1,000 cash bond regarding a separate case filed against Transue on February 3, 2021, charging him with Class G Felony Possess Firearm-Convicted of a Felony, Repeater; Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Repeater; and Misdemeanor Possession of Drug Paraphernalia with an incident date of February 2, 2021, listed. On February 12, 2021, Investigators for Polk County received a message that Transue wanted to speak with them. Following a court hearing on the separate criminal case filed against Transue, he was brought from the courtroom to speak with the investigators. Transue was advised that he had been caught on video shooting the individual who had sustained the gunshot wound. Investigators told Transue that this was his one and only chance to provide information. Transue stated that he wanted an attorney and the interview ended.
Investigators received a call on February 16, 2021, indicating that the victim of the shooting wanted to speak to them. The victim confirmed that he had been shot by Transue and stated that after the shooting he did not seek medical attention because he thought he had warrants for his arrest. He stated that he took the bullet out of himself. He later gave the bullet to the Investigators.
Statements provided to Investigators indicated that the victim came to the residence to obtain methamphetamine from one of the witnesses who was also at the residence at the time of the incident.
Charges of Class B Felony Attempt First Degree Intentional Homicide, Repeater; and Class G Felony Possession of a Firearm by a Felon, Repeater were filed against Transue on March 10, 2021.
The criminal complaint states that Chad Transue was previously convicted of Assault-2nd Degree-Dangerous Weapon on July 27, 2020, in Ramsey County Case No. 62-CR-18-8330 and of Drive or Operate Vehicle w/o Consent on July 17, 2017, in Polk County Case No. 17CF47.
Transue is scheduled to appear again on March 12, 2021, regarding all his criminal charges.
