SAWYER COUNTY -- Felony charges have been filed against Sundown L. Doney, a registered sex offender, for failure to comply with Sex Offender Registry requirements.
In January 2020, the Sex Offender Registry main line in Madison, WI received a call from Doney, who stated that he had a new address on W. Park Rd. in Hayward, WI.
Following this reported change, a Registry Specialist received an email from Doney’s probation/parole agent, stating that because Doney’s new reported address was in a different county than the one Doney was currently being supervised in, a supervision transfer was required.
A residence check was arranged, and Doney was instructed what date and time to be at his new address on W. Park Rd.
When probation and parole agents arrived at the residence, Doney was not there, the residence was locked, and no furniture or belongings were visible through the windows, according to the criminal complaint.
The owner of the residence was contacted, and he stated that the residence was under construction, it was kept locked when it was not being worked on, no one else has a key or access to the residence, and Doney was not renting the residence nor did he have permission to be at the residence.
Doney has been charged with Class H Felony Sex Offender Registry Violation, and due to his whereabouts being unknown, a warrant for his arrest was also issued.
Doney also has pending charges for Class H Felony Child Abuse-Intentionally Cause Harm in a separate Sawyer County Circuit Court criminal case filed in June 2019 as well as pending charges in Barron County Circuit Court for Misdemeanor Battery and Misdemeanor Disorderly Conduct filed in July 2019.
Online records show that Doney was convicted of Class C Felony 2nd Deg. Sex. Assault/Unconscious Victim in April 2009 in Sawyer County Circuit Court.
Doney is required to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. Anyone with information about Doney’s whereabouts can contact the Sawyer County Sheriff’s Office at 715-634-4858.
