Area Youth Learn Rescue Skills At Northwood Technical College Camp

BARRON COUNTY -- Northwood Technical College invites the media to attend a demonstration and competition from area youth who are participating in a Fired up for the Future Post 343 Firefighting/EMS/Leadership camp at Chippewa Valley Council Camp Phillips in Haugen, WI on Thursday, August 11 at 9:30 a.m.

The competition is the culmination of a five-day camp, which is focused on teaching seventh through 12th graders rescue skills in firefighting, emergency medical services and leadership. Campers will compete in crews in four areas including a bucket brigade, midnight fire drill, search, and patient packaging. The crew with the fastest time will win the 2022 Fired up for the Future muster competition.

There are 34 campers in attendance, 12 crew chiefs and 20 instructors. Campers are from Barron, Bayfield, Burnett, Eau Claire, Lincoln, Marathon, Oconto, Polk, St. Croix, and Washburn Counties in Wisconsin, as well as Washington County in Minnesota.

Thank you to the many district fire departments for sponsoring campers and the community partners who made contributions to the camp. Their support makes this experience possible for the next generation of emergency responders.
