Spooner Traffic Stop Leads To Discovery Of Drugs & Illegal Firearm

***SPD INFORMATION RELEASE***

On September 29, 2016, Officers from The Spooner Police Department initiated a traffic stop on a vehicle in the City of Spooner for a speeding violation. During the traffic stop the officers developed probable cause that there were controlled substances in the vehicle. A search of the vehicle was conducted and uncovered 57.6 grams of suspected marijuana and evidence to support the drivers intent to distribute the controlled substance. Officers also located a loaded 9mm firearm in the vehicle. A weapons check done on the firearm indicated that the firearm was stolen. The drivers 10 year old son was a passenger in the vehicle.

Further investigation by the Washburn County Jail Staff and Washburn County Health and Human Services revealed that the driver had given the officers false identifying information and was a convicted felon and had prior drug charges.

This case is still under investigation and SPD will not be releasing any further information at this time.
