Anonymous Tip Leads to Drug Bust in Washburn County

Anonymous Tip Leads to Drug Bust in Washburn County

An anonymous tip to the Washburn County Sheriff’s Office on November 13, 2017, led deputies to a residence where they located not only several grams of methamphetamine and heroin but also a man with an active arrest warrant.

The tip apparently advised Washburn County Sheriff’s Office that Andrew Mortensen, who had an active arrest warrant in Washburn County, was believed to be driving a Volkswagon Jetta, and that he might be at a residence located off Highway 70. It was determined that this residence belonged to Sherrie and Dennie Deloye. When the Sheriff’s Office responded to the residence, a Volkswagon Jetta was parked outside with the motor running. Deputies located four people at the residence; including Rebecca Baker, Andrew Mortensen, Sherrie Deloye, and Dennis Deloye.

Deputies took Mortensen into custody at that time due to his active arrest warrant.

Criminal charges have been filed against all 4 people following the incident. Online circuit Court records show that the following charges have been filed:

Andrew Mortensen:

  • Class F Felony Possess w/Intent Heroin
  • Class H Felony Bail Jump (5 Counts)
  • Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine
  • Class I Felony Possession of THC (Marijuana) - 2nd + Offense

Dennis Deloye:

  • Class I Felony Maintain Drug Trafficking Place

According to the criminal complaint filed against Rebecca Baker, deputies had prior contact with Baker in recent weeks and the complaint states that deputies had advised Baker of Mortensen’s active warrants at that time and she had stated that she believed him to be in Burnett County with a new girlfriend.

When deputies asked Baker about what had happened that evening, she allegedly stated that she and Mortensen had been smoking methamphetamine; however, she declined to answer questions as to whether or not Sherrie or Dennis Deloye had also been smoking. The criminal complaint goes on to state that Mortenson declined to answer the deputy’s questions, other than to state that he had purchased the Volkswagon Jetta from a relative but had not yet registered it in his name.

Upon being questioned about the activities of that night, Dennis Deloye advised deputies that all 4 individuals found at the residence had been smoking methamphetamine just prior to law enforcement arriving.

According to the criminal complaint, Sherrie Deloye repeatedly accused the deputies of lying and making things up and she also denied that anyone had smoked methamphetamine in the residence that night. Deputies ultimately ended the interview with Sherrie, as she was becoming increasingly argumentative.

When deputies searched the Deloye residence they found the following items:

  • At least a dozen pipes of the type commonly used to smoke either methamphetamine or marijuana.
  • A scale which had methamphetamine residue on it.
  • Over a dozen plastic baggies of various sizes and which contained either methamphetamine, heroin, or marijuana.
  • Several syringes.
  • Several hundred dollars in cash.
  • A bong, used for inhaling marijuana.
  • Several grams of Methamphetamine and Heroin.

Deputies also found passports, birth certificates, a bank ledger, and a social security card all issued in names which did not match anyone found at the residence that night.

Online circuit court records show that Sherrie Deloye has a prior Washburn County Circuit Court case pending, filed on August 29, 2017, and charging her with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

Andrew Mortensen has a prior Washburn County Circuit Court case which was filed on December 16, 2016, and charges him with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Class I Felony Possession of THC (Marijuana) - 2nd + Offense, Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia.

Rebecca Baker was charged earlier this year, on August 7, 2017, with Class I Felony Possession of Methamphetamine, Class I Felony Possession of Narcotic Drugs, and Misdemeanor Possess Drug Paraphernalia. DrydenWire.com reported on that incident in which the Wisconsin State Patrol conducted a traffic stop leading to criminal drug-related charges for Baker and 2 other individuals who were in the vehicle.

According to online circuit court records, on November 14, 2017, bail hearings were held for Baker, Mortensen, and Sherrie Deloye, and the Court placed each of them on $1,000 cash bond. Baker and Sherrie Deloye have since posted their bond, however, records indicate that Mortensen remains in custody on his charges. It is not known at this time if Dennis Deloye has been placed on any bail bond.

All four, Baker, Mortensen, and both Dennis & Sherrie, are due back in Washburn County Circuit Court in early December regarding their criminal charges.

Pursuant to the direction of the Wisconsin Supreme Court, as found in Supreme Court Rule 20:3.6, Trial Publicly, you are advised that a charge is merely an accusation and that a defendant is presumed innocent until and unless proven guilty.
