POLK COUNTY — A 6-year-old girl has died following a snowmobile crash in Polk County on Friday, according to the Wisconsin DNR.
Recreation Warden Mark Little from Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources said that the Polk County Sheriff’s Office initially began an investigation into the accident after a man struck a tree on private land on the night of January 17th. His granddaughter, of Amery, WI, who Little says was wearing a helmet at the time of the crash, was seated in front of him and suffered severe injuries. She later died from her injuries.
The grandfather is expected to recover from his injuries and alcohol is not suspected as a factor in this case.
Little said that no further information is being given out regarding this incident out of sensitivity to those involved and their families and friends, adding that the Department would like to thank the agencies assisting in this incident including the Polk Office and first responders.
The Wisconsin DNR is still investigating this incident.
