1 Dead, 2 Injured After Crash In Chippewa County

CHIPPEWA COUNTY -- One person has died and two others have been taken to the hospital after a head-on crash on Highway 178 in Chippewa County Sunday afternoon, according to a news release from the Wisconsin State Patrol.

News Release

At 12:02 PM on Sunday October 24, 2021 a crash occurred on WIS 178 SB at Sth 178 at 151st St in Chippewa County near Chippewa Falls.

The details of the crash are as follows:

A vehicle southbound on Hwy 178 near 151st street was struck head-on by a northbound vehicle. Initial on-scene evidence shows the northbound vehicle failed to negotiate a curve in the roadway and drifted into the path of the southbound vehicle. The driver of the southbound vehicle was pronounced deceased on scene.

Both occupants of the northbound vehicle were transported by ambulance to Mayo Hospital - Luther Campus, Eau Claire, for injuries sustained from the crash.

Hwy 178 was closed for an extended period of time as a result of the crash.

The crash remains under investigation by the Wisconsin State Patrol.
